I have noticed that of all sorts of insurance, medical health insurance is the most controversial because of the discord between the insurance company’s obligation to remain adrift and the customer’s need to have insurance coverage. Insurance companies’ profits on well being plans are extremely low, therefore some organizations struggle to gain profits. Thanks for the ideas you discuss through this site. jackpot338

Your joy is your unmasked sadness

modafinil shop

?»?Sadness and joy have a close relationship, they are inseparable, since both emotions are on the same scale. One gives meaning to the other, that is why they are equally valuable.
So, although this may seem a contradiction -and we will talk about contradictions throughout this article- they are not incompatible emotions, in fact they often occur together.
Do you value your sadness as much as your joy? We tend to think that joy is the emotion par excellence, the one we aspire to. It is the one we long for the most and the one we try to seduce to stay with us as long as possible. However, the value of joy lies in the depth of sadness.
The privilege of our lives lies in the complexity of what we are able to experience, feel and cultivate through our emotions, sensations and feelings. There are moments to laugh, to cry, to love, to get angry, to walk away, to enjoy and to be grateful for every detail we have the opportunity to live. All this compendium of experiences is what weaves the material we are made of.
"Your joy is your unmasked sadness. The same well that gives birth to your laughter has been infinitely filled with your tears. And how could it be otherwise? The deeper sadness digs its claw into your being the more joy you can contain."
-Khalil Gibran
Leaving room for sadnessSadness is one of the emotions that we often do not allow to appear, as we find it unpleasant and annoying. We believe that this emotion only harms us and prevents us from being happy, which makes us try to repress or deny it.
The truth is that, by repressing this emotion, we are in turn closing a valuable door to let our vital energy flow. Thus, by holding back some of our emotions we obstruct the way for our joy to expand.
Each of the sensations, feelings and emotions we experience has its meaning. If we listen, instead of closing ourselves off to all these messages, we will better understand ourselves and thus the meaning of all that we judge and criticize.
"When you are joyful, look into the depths of your hearts and you will find that the very thing that gives you joy today was the thing that filled you with sadness yesterday. And when you are sad, look again and you will find that you are weeping for that which was yesterday your delight."
-Khalil Gibran
Creating harmony between contradictionsStillness and balance only indicate that we are empty. The essence of our vitality is light and darkness, opposites, paradox and contradictions. Integrating reason and feeling gives us the possibility of achieving harmony, of creating a thread to pull on in which both feel that they are part of each other.
We know that we are alive thanks to our ups and downs and the intensity of our sensations. Who has not felt a contradiction between what he felt and what he thought? It is inevitable that discrepancies arise in our lives. Resolving them is part of our personal development: making decisions knowing that there is no right or wrong choice, only consequences.
"You are suspended between the pans of a scale that only when empty are they balanced. But if you wish to weigh your treasures, then it will be up to one or the other to rise or fall."
-Khalil Gibran
Opposites are complementary
If we pay attention to our experiences, we will see how there is a double face in what we live: just as we experience pleasure, we also know suffering, we feel love and we know fear, the absurd and the divine, sadness and joy, enthusiasm and boredom, etc.
All these opposites are related, they are part of the same coin. In this way they complement each other, since it is the existence of one that gives value to the other. In joy is hidden our sadness and in sadness joy, giving meaning and value to each other.
It is for this reason that it is of great importance that we value all our aspects, they are not better one than the other, they are complements of our experience. By accepting our emotions we stop resisting the inevitable, the expression of our being.
"I don't know if I'm a sad person with a vocation for joy, or vice versa, or the other way around. What I do know is that there is always some sadness in my happiest moments, just as there is always a little joy in my worst days."
-Mario Benedetti

Forgetting or learning to live with it

modafinil chemical formula

?»?Can we really forget what has hurt us, do we do this or do we actually learn to place it somewhere else so that we can live without it hurting? Forgetting may not be a matter of willpower, but that doesn't mean we can't help our memory lose the memory.
We have all gone through situations, relationships and moments that made us happy, but there comes a time when happiness is cut off, broken. Some people disappear, other times love ends or distance sets traps. What can we do so that these memories stop hurting?
Perhaps the first idea to keep in mind is that forgetting, "the hard way", does not work. The louder we shout that we do not want a memory, the more it will appear in our mind in the form of a circular thought. It was and will continue to be, although now in a different form, but the memory is there, what would be good is to learn to let it be there but without it hurting.
It is up to us to give a new value to this thought, to integrate it into our life history without causing pain. A good internal discourse is the following: "It made me happy, I learned from all the bad things that happened and I keep in my memory the good memories. If I make an effort to forget, the more it will appear in the focus of my consciousness and the more power it will have to generate negative emotions. Everything that has been part of my time is now part of my history and so forgetting - as one who understands forgetting as erasing - should not be a point to work on."
To stop talking is not to forgetNo matter how much effort we make or how hard we try to put out of our mind that which hurts us, most probably we will not succeed. Not talking about the pain, closing ourselves to meeting new people, not writing to another person because of a grudge or not forgiving a harm caused to us is not forgetting.
Keeping the issues that hurt us as pending or recurring is not forgetting, it is preventing them from expressing themselves in a way that we can control their effects. Sadly, they are still there, packing them simply means to keep the memories in an unsafe place, since just by touching them they will hurt us again.
When we forget, it no longer hurts, we no longer remember, we can no longer experience what we felt at the time, but it is not pushing it away, it is erasing it. As this is an impossible task (we do not have a button in our mind that sends to the trash all that is undesirable or unwanted), it is appropriate to strive to do what is in our hands. This translates into reflecting on the value of that memory, how we want to keep it, what keeps hurting us and why it keeps hurting us.
We have the opportunity to work on our experiences and not let them take control over us. We are more than memories, we are the ones who give meaning to our memory, we are more than thoughts, because we are ultimately the ones who shape it.
Now it is there, but it no longer hurtsFrom the moment we make that reading and elaborate it, the memory will be in us. We will remember the time with our grandparents, we will remember that first love that marked us so much, we will remember when we played or talked on the phone with our friends, the visits to other cities, the summer beers. These memories remain, and remain in me, stripped of the association with other negative memories, therefore they will shine more brightly.
It doesn't hurt because we have learned that making an effort "in the raw" to forget produces work with no other fruit than frustration. I do not want to forget the good, only what hurt me and that is a process that requires our intelligence, but also time and patience.
On the other hand, if it hurts us it is because it happened, because we feel it, because we are alive. Let's not put it aside from our mind, let's give it a new value, a new place. Let's let it be, but removing the importance it has already lost, all that it takes from us, integrating it in a new way in our history.

Benefits of sleeping on the left side of the body

400mg modafinil

?»?According to some studies, the position in which we sleep is crucial in our lives. Some of these positions help to improve our health.
Depending on how we arrange our body, we may or may not intensify our rest, facilitate the normal development of our functions and organs, and feel fully relaxed.
Up, down, right or left?
The Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology recently published an article in which Dr. John Doulliard, thanks to several studies, mentions that when we sleep on the left side of the body we favor the lymphatic drainage of our body. The lymph carries the elements that must be filtered by the lymph nodes, and it is on the left side that the body finally processes them.
Similarly, sleeping on the left side of the body favors the proper functioning of our digestive system. This affects in that we have a better production of gastric juices and that the secretion of pancreatic enzymes occurs without so much effort. In general terms, the digestive system has a calmer process and its development takes place in a favorable time, but less quickly, than when sleeping in other positions.
Other benefits for the body that occur when sleeping on the left side refer directly to the proper functioning of the heart. This vital muscle is located in this area of the body; in fact, it occupies more than 80% of the upper left side of our body.
The aorta comes out of the heart and finally leads to the abdomen, taking an arched shape that is preponderant to the left side; that is why its normal transit is on that side. Now, while all this is happening, our heart continues pumping blood, but it does it in a simpler way, because when we sleep on the left side we are located in its territory.
On the other hand, we must take into account that the spleen is also located on the left side of our body. This organ has a very important role for the digestive, lymphatic and immune system. Therefore, when a person gets used to sleeping in this position, he/she is helping the body to send its natural fluids to the spleen, so that it can develop its work in a proper way.
Getting used to sleeping on the left side
Generally we are not aware of the postures we adopt at bedtime. It also happens that throughout the night we change our position and wake up in a completely different way than when we went to bed.
What we do notice, on many occasions, is that we wake up with muscle pain or feeling heavy and sluggish. Perhaps if we paid more attention to our sleeping position, we would notice great benefits for our daily life.
It is also very important to be aware of the position the body adopts during naps. These short sleep lapses usually take place after eating in the middle of the day. Therefore, a bad posture can lead to digestive difficulties of various kinds.
It is not necessary to sleep a whole nap, let alone a whole night, on the left side. It is simply enough that it is the predominant posture. Perhaps intuitively you know this and seek to rest on that side. But if this is not the case, it is simply a matter of changing a habit. The conviction that this position can help you improve your health is the best incentive to try to adopt this healthy habit.
Your body will thank you for helping it work the right way. And remember that being healthy will always make you feel a little happier.

Intimacy appears when you take off your skin, not just your clothes.

?»?Magnetic minds: people eager to learn and connect emotionally.

Magnetic minds are characterized by a deep attraction to knowledge, to experience, to feel, to build emotionally intense bonds with other people. They are, in essence, hearts eager to find meaning in life, but not finding it in such a meaningful way it is common for them to experience depressive episodes or deep disappointment.
It is quite possible that this term, "magnetic minds", is very new to most of us, strange even. We could say that we have reached that time when every day more personality profiles, more behaviors, more vital approaches are labeled. This one that occupies our article today is not as new as we think, it appeared in 2000 thanks to a book by psychologist Mary-Elaine Jacobsen entitled "The Magnetic Adult, A Guide to Everyday Genius".
"As we acquire knowledge, things do not become more understandable, but more mysterious."
-Albert Schweitzer
What the author and many other psychologists have seen for years in their consultations is a certain personality profile to which, until recently, no one had yet given a name. They are people who shine, who dazzle not only because of their knowledge, but above all because of their great sensitivity, their intense passion for life and their sometimes very high ideals.
They long for a rewarding professional future in line with their talents, they want to find partners with whom they can experience intense emotions and create a meaningful life, they are looking for friends with whom they can connect intellectually and above all emotionally. We could say that for these people there is no middle ground, everything must be intense, everything must give them a revealing and almost magical meaning with which to grow.
As we can already imagine, this personality style lives in a continuous contradiction. Their expectations and that magnetic, but above all sensitive mind, clash almost constantly with the harsh reality.
Characteristics of magnetic mindsMagnetic minds are often mistaken for intellectually privileged or high IQ minds. It should be said that this is not always the case. We are facing people with a great capacity for achievement, curious people, eager to accumulate knowledge and experiences, and above all, to enjoy emotionally the whole process.
Let's take a look at some more characteristics.
Magnetic minds work very fastMagnetic minds have arborescent thinking. From one concept they escalate to a deeper one and then jump to another idea, and then to yet another. They are interested in many things at the same time and try to go deeper into them because they are driven by curiosity, by an almost tireless need to know, to discover.
Their minds work very fast, they are attentive to all stimuli and sometimes they get frustrated for not being able to reach all those signals, everything that surrounds them.
One of their most characteristic traits is their ability to connect with others. As their name suggests, they are "magnetic", they have a great facility when it comes to grasping the needs of others, to read emotions, to know the interests of others. However, if there is something they expect, it is to be reciprocated in the same way, with the same emotional intensity.
Since this does not always happen, they experience disappointment in a desperate way, they are hurt by criticism, deception and emotional coldness in an almost devastating way.
Magnetic minds always receive the same criticismPeople who know a magnetic mind always point out the same thing: "they are too passionate", "they are too sensitive, "they are too dramatic", "they go too fast"... "Too much, too much, too much" is the eternal litany that this personality type usually encounters.
However, they think that "it is never enough "Here comes the eternal contradiction of magnetic minds, to think that although all their environment thinks that they live in continuous excess (especially on the emotional level) they think that they are always missing something, that their voids are tremendous and that they should try harder, that they should achieve many more things.
The dissatisfaction is eternal. And it is so because they do not achieve meaningful personal relationships, because life remains meaningless and because perhaps, they should make much more effort to discover this and that, to know what is beyond...
Deep thinkers with sensitive heartsIf there is one thing magnetic minds long for, it is to meet an affectionate partner who challenges them emotionally and mentally. That is undoubtedly one of their highest goals and, at the same time, one of their deepest frustrations.
Thus, it is common for them to go through very complex times, times of great anxiety or even depression. Their sensitivity is very deep and it is usual that in those days or months of isolation they dedicate it to deepen even more in their thoughts, to try to forget their disappointments by immersing themselves in books, in new courses, in accumulating knowledge.
To conclude, what magnetic minds need most is to feel fulfilled and accepted. Something like that is never easy if one lives in such a high emotional frequency, and in that continuous untiring yearning to accumulate wisdom, in order to find meaning in life.
Finding that magnetic "north" is not easy, we know. Hence, they must learn to keep their feet on the ground, to find an internal balance where they understand that life has the meaning that one wants to give it, and that many of the answers are not always on the outside or next to anyone, but in that interior that needs to be nurtured, valued more and self-realized.

The use of language to change the mind: the legacy of Milton Erickson
modafinil australia buy

?»?The use of language to change the mind: the legacy of Milton Erickson

Perhaps because his therapeutic approach was difficult to replicate by other psychiatrists, or perhaps precisely because of that, Milton H. Erickson is today considered a creative genius. This American psychiatrist and psychologist was a pioneer in hypnosis therapies to the point of achieving legendary status. Milton Erickson developed, among other tools, therapeutic strategies based on language to "change" the mind.
Numerous schools of Ericksonian hypnosis have appeared throughout the world. Brief therapy, solution-focused therapy, strategic therapy and systemic family therapy are influenced by the work of Milton Erickson, also inspiring the creators of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) strategic therapy.
Erickson's true legacy
The model was named the Milton Model in honor of this prestigious therapist. The creators of NLP studied the system used by Dr. Erickson and updated his strategies. This model is currently used effectively in both therapeutic and non-therapeutic settings. It is an example of the strategic use of language to change the mind.
The characteristic elements of this approach are basically three:
Nominalizations. These are noun expressions, usually derived from verbs. For example, the word "knowledge" (verb to know). Each person personalizes the ultimate meaning of the term "knowledge" in reference to personal experiences.
The use of "No". The expression of negation does not exist as such in mental images, sounds or sensations. Negation exists only in spoken or written language or symbolic representations, but not in mental images. The best known example is the phrase "don't think of a blue elephant". The mind has not understood the "don't", it has only "seen" the blue elephant.
Analogous underlining. A persuasive tool created by Erickson, based on the idea that only part of our communication is conscious. Analogous underlining is applied by giving emphasis to a word that is intended to remain in the interlocutor's subconscious. It is done by adding a silence or a gesture while pronouncing the word in question, even changing the tone of voice.
The language map
Although we are often unaware of it, in our communication - both with other people and with ourselves - the language we use shapes a map. A map that affects our imagination, our thoughts and our emotions. At the same time, this linguistic map would constitute our filter of reality. Thus, changing language to change the mind involves -among other places- recognizing this map and changing it.
It is through this map that we express our environment, beliefs, identity, values and our own and other people's behaviors. Moreover, with language we have enormous power to influence ourselves and others. We may be aware of what we say, but not how we say it.
Language takes power away and gives power
The linguistic patterns we each adopt in many cases are inherited from our environment. They are adopted uncritically, repeated without further analysis. But becoming aware of the terms and the way we use them gives a different perspective to the relationship we have with ourselves and with others.
There is a type of language, internal and external, that subtracts power. There are several types but the clearest example is found in phrases such as "My mother gets on my nerves". This type of language not only disempowers, it also puts power in the hands of another person.
To change our language patterns, the first step is to know how we use it. The same sentence said as "I get on my mother's nerves", although apparently the same thing, the truth is that it changes absolutely everything. In this case, it is oneself who has the power to change or modify an unpleasant, even harmful fact.
Changing the language to change the mindThe hypnotic therapy through language used by Milton Erickson, or NLP, would be some of the ways to make us aware of how to change these linguistic patterns in order to considerably improve perception and attitudes towards many aspects of life. Becoming aware of how these linguistic patterns affect emotions, both positive and negative, according to the paradigm initiated by Milton Erickson, would be the first step to change the mind.

Childhood trauma and adult depression.
modafinil buy uk

?»?Childhood trauma and adult depression.

No stage is more intense, wonderful and vulnerable at the same time, than our childhood. Those early experiences forever mark not only much of the course of our life, but also the vision we have of it. The bond we establish with our caregivers, with those parents who guide us, take care of us and tuck us in, will offer us the pillars of our development to grow with security and autonomy. That is why it is so important to have a good childhood, because if traumas appear at this stage, they could mark our adult life.
But if something goes wrong, if the scarp of violence, misfortune or chance appears in our life cutting the course of that childhood, the imprint will remain there forever. It is a fact, a reality. And as children, as people who are not yet capable not only of defending ourselves, but also of understanding why evil or tragedy exists, we will have to digest it with all its difficulty and gravity.
Psychiatrists call these situations "early stress". These are events caused by physical or emotional traumas that will alter to a great extent the course of our development and our maturity. The wound will remain in our brain, that severe peak of stress and suffering leaves its lesion. So that in adulthood we are more at risk of developing some kind of depression.
Lack of affection in childhood, one of the major causes of depressionSometimes, we do not need to go to such unfortunate extremes as child abuse or mistreatment. Many times, those children who grow up without family roots or with parents who have not known, or have not wanted to strengthen that essential bond with their children, causes them to reach maturity with many shortcomings, with many faults. This can create in them different types of traumas. One of the most widespread consequences is depression. The lack of affection and affection have prevented the child from developing a healthy self-esteem and, thus, a healthy, happy and integral childhood,
A healthy, happy and integral childhood, makes the child grow up knowing that he is loved. That each of his steps, his decisions and his failures, will have the unconditional and unique support of his family. The development of their self-esteem will go hand in hand with the affection of their loved ones. Their self-concept will also be positive, because it is the reflection of what they have always found so far.
But if he only finds emptiness, scorn and reproaches, the child will grow up not only with a marked insecurity, but also with a certain resentment and even distrust. How to do it? If those who should have offered him unconditional support and affection only gave him coldness and rudeness, it is difficult for him to reach a healthy union with another person. Let him distrust and fear. Thus, in this way, a distrustful adult can be created, unable to believe in himself and in others. Fearful when it comes to making decisions and even full of resentment and anger for no apparent reason.
Psychiatrists speak of "biological vulnerability". That is, all those traumatic or negative experiences from the past have been embedded in our experience and also at the brain level. High stress rates shape and change many of our deepest structures, and all this makes us more fragile people. People more likely to suffer from depression in adulthood.
But does this mean that everyone who has suffered trauma in childhood is bound to suffer from depression? The answer is no.
Each of us deals with our traumatic past in a different way. It may be that for some people these events may be a trigger to overcome and to fight for every day. Something to assimilate, accept and face so that life can give you a new opportunity, and be happy again.
On the other hand, for other people this biological and emotional predisposition will continue to weigh too much. Not only will it be a persistent memory, but it can influence their way of relating to the world. One way of relating can lead to an introverted, cold and distant life. An adult stage weighed down by affective deficiencies that can lead to chronic depressive symptoms, such as dysthymia. The adult may come to think that he/she does not deserve to be happy and, thus, will not give him/herself the opportunity to be happy... or to try to be happy.
Other consequences
They may be people who have lost confidence in themselves and everything around them. They find it difficult to maintain friendships and even emotional relationships. They demand affection, but are unable to accept it because they are still afraid of being betrayed, of being hurt. In spite of needing affection, deep down, they believe that they do not deserve it and they reject it. They are afraid of the love of others and do not know how to deal with it.
They are profiles where a kind of chronic anxiety, hypersensitivity and emotional vulnerability may be implicit, with which they struggle every day. Happiness in these cases has a high price, so how to face it? Obviously, with effort, will and a lot of social support.
Final reflectionIn view of all these realities, it is only worth remembering the importance of continuing to protect children. Never think of a child as a miniature adult. A child is a person hungry for positive emotions, in need of experiences full of unconditional affection, words and bonds. That is why it is so important to give them love, affection and affection. Give them their space of autonomy as they grow but knowing that they still have the support of their parents.
A child is not an adult who can understand why other adults may treat them badly. Nor can they defend themselves. What happens at that age will mark him forever. Do not forget this. Always take care of the little ones. If you are the one who suffered a complicated childhood, remember that happiness is not vetoed for anyone, and that it is worth accepting, overcoming and living again.

Behaviors of a person who underestimates him/herself.
modafinil for sale

?»?Behaviors of a person who underestimates him/herself.
.
Underestimating others is quite common, but so is underestimating yourself. Both behaviors are equally damaging. They erode our relationships, detract from our personal growth and well-being. Thus, few psychological assets are as necessary as investing properly in our self-esteem.
Self-confidence, self-esteem and self-worth is a precious resource that guarantees more than just happiness. The person who has a healthy esteem towards that figure that every day is reflected in his mirror, will fight with greater vigor for his own objectives. He will feel deserving of everything he achieves, will invest appropriately in his relationships and will enjoy greater satisfaction.
We all deserve to enjoy this exceptional psychological sinew. However, as Albert Ellis pointed out, self-acceptance is not self-esteem. That is, it is not enough to "accept" ourselves. We have to value ourselves. This, as curious as it may seem to us, is not something we do adequately. Hence, it is appropriate to know at what point a person underestimates himself.
"There is no duty we can undervalue so much as the duty to be happy."
-Robert Louis Stevenson
The person who underestimates himself refuses complimentsModesty may be a trait that characterizes you. Now, the truth is, that modesty encapsulates how much you underestimate yourself. A "it's nothing", "it's no big deal", "I don't care" can be a real problem.
Most of the time, our receptiveness to compliments is a clear reflection of our self-esteem. This is exactly what a study conducted by psychologist David R. Kille, University of Waterloo, Canada. Thus, kind words and compliments make us feel uncomfortable because they contradict our own opinion of ourselves.
We don't take them seriously or simply don't know how to react to a compliment.
You make references to other peopleIf you are a person who underestimates yourself, your way of speaking will be characterized by always making reference to other people. For example, "my husband says...", "my teacher said that...". This denotes a lack of confidence in what you are saying. In fact, if you work in front of the public or as a salesperson, your credibility will be conspicuous by its absence.
With this you also support your opinions in others "ask such and such person if you don't believe me", "isn't it true what Ernesto said?". Things like this will make us very vulnerable and insecure.
You avoid thinking about yourself firstWhen was the last time you allowed yourself a whim? People who underestimate themselves tend to think that they cannot afford certain licenses. Aspects such as prioritizing oneself in front of others at a given moment, giving oneself time, a detail or a whim is something that is difficult for us when self-esteem is low.
Not everything has to be for others, you deserve good things too! You have the right (and the obligation) to give yourself the importance you should give yourself first. Just once! Give it a try. It's not being selfish, it's loving yourself.
You think that others see you in a negative wayWhen will you stop thinking that those people who laugh at you are laughing at you? A boy or girl who asks you to go out already provokes in your thoughts the phrase "this will not last long, when he/she gets to know me he/she will get away from me". A sincere compliment seems like a handout, something they say to you so you won't feel so bad about your looks.
Be confident. When you realize that there is sincerity in the words of others, that you are not the target of laughter you will become strong and gain confidence. Don't think things that really aren't. You are underestimating yourself. You are underestimating yourself, don't let it happen!
You don't think you are unique, you don't see anything special about yourselfAnother of the thoughts and behaviors of people who underestimate themselves is believing that they are not the only one. For example, following the example of a person who asks another person out or gives them a gift the person who underestimates themselves will think they do it with everyone.
"It all starts like this", "I am not the only one", "the others are better", these thoughts are very common. Here again insecurity is evident. You have to believe in yourself. So, believe it or not, no two people are alike. Never think that you are treated like someone else.
Pejorative words
The nicknames they call you, you've already thought of them! Why do you think that way? Those words that come up in your mind, those derogatory words that you cause yourself to put on you because you put them on yourself are not helping you!
Many of the behaviors of people who underestimate themselves are similar to the behaviors of people who need to feel pain. I have this weakness, this problem and instead of running away I rejoice in it no matter how much it hurts. It's not the right thing to do.
Hopefully these behaviors have helped you determine how a person who underestimates themselves behaves. Have you found that you do this sometimes? Put solution, consult with a specialized professional to work on your self-esteem. Approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy can help you.

Scaffolding in education, why is it so important?
commander modafinil

?»?Scaffolding in education, why is it so important?

Despite the fact that the term scaffolding may cause us bewilderment, the truth is that it is carried out in education much more than we think. In fact, it is extremely useful in promoting learning, as well as skill development. However, this is not only intended for young people in kindergarten or primary education. It is also for students in secondary school or even university.
How can we define the concept of scaffolding? If we take into account some studies we can say that "scaffolding refers to the different levels of help offered by the adult to the child in a familiar situation, in order to facilitate the learner the completion of the task that he/she has not been able to solve by him/herself". However, this definition can be qualified, since, as we have pointed out, scaffolding can also be intended for university students.
Vygotsky and scaffoldingThe term scaffolding is based on Vygotsky's constructivist view of effective learner development. This psychologist introduced a fundamental concept known as the zone of proximal development. This term referred to that fringe in which, because of their difficulty, were those challenges that were capable of testing the learner's abilities, a place that leaves to one side the tasks that are impossible for him -with and without some guidance- and to the other those that are very easy.
Psychic development would be everything that a person can do on his or her own. Potential development, on the other hand, is what he can achieve when a teacher or trained adult helps him or acts as a guide. In this gap between these two developments would be the term scaffolding. Without this tool an individual can achieve a goal that he or she could not achieve on his or her own. This could be doing a job, completing an exercise or carrying out a project.
In scaffolding there are no shortcuts. It is not about giving it all chewed up to each student, regardless of the level of education they are in. This tool allows a skilled person such as a teacher or parent to provide the resources the learner needs to complete a challenge, but without taking on the burden of completing the task; this will always fall to the learner.
"The teacher must adopt the role of facilitator, not content provider."
-Lev Vygotsky
Keys to the effectiveness of scaffoldingFor scaffolding to be carried out effectively and to really become a support in the development of psychological processes, a number of rules must be taken into account. If any of them is not present, scaffolding may not bear the expected fruits.
The student must be involved in the activity: this means that it is essential that he/she makes personal contributions. To this end, the activity must be adapted to their level.
The importance of appropriateness and challenge: although the activity must be appropriate for the learner's level, it must also provide a point of challenge to allow the learner to progress, not stagnate.
Development of structured learning: activities or tasks should be organized in a way that provides natural development and progress.
Intervention of the guide: the person guiding the scaffolding should act as a collaborator, guiding the student. This should be done through an interaction where communication is fluid.
"Learning is like a tower, you have to build it step by step."
-Lev Vygotsky
The transfer of control
When scaffolding is carried out in the right way and the learner is allowed to reach the development of his or her potential, what we can call "transfer of control" will emerge. The learner becomes confident in his new skills and abilities, which will allow him to feel more in control of the situation in front of him. In this way, we will ensure that he will always maintain a sense of responsibility for the task at hand.
What is achieved is that the student learns an active and committed behavior with something as simple as an exercise. However, this may seem trivial, but it will have its importance in his daily life; scaffolding helps to build much more elaborate knowledge structures, reinforcing the learner with his own achievement: he has been the protagonist.
Although we have done it on different occasions without giving it a name, scaffolding is a tool that is frequently resorted to in order to allow an adequate development in each student. Unfortunately, there are teachers who do not put it into practice, even though it is a fantastic tool for the learner to learn to coexist with frustration, to take responsibility for the part he can control and to grow in skills and knowledge.
